VALDOSTA, GA -
A Valdosta man finds a bullet on his porch.
He doesn't think anyone targeted him. He thinks it's probably just a stray bullet someone fired in the air but he knows it could have seriously injured his family or his pets.
This is the bullet J.G. Di Mascio found at his Valdosta home last month. He noticed rain coming through a small hole on the gutter and started investigating.
"Unless it's in some type of self defense or something like that you're restricted," said Valdosta Police Lt. Aaron Kirk. "You're not able to discharge a firearm within the city limits."
Family members think the bullet went through the gutter then left this mark.
The stray bullet was found right here on the porch and Di Mascio believes it came from a rifle.
Family members says it could've been a celebratory shot from new years but it's scary to think that young children and their dogs could've been outside.
"A bullet can travel a good distance and you don't know where it's going to come down at because the city's so populated there's a good chance it will hit a house, a vehicle or someone," said Lt. Kirk.
While it's a mystery where that bullet came from and the Di Mascio family wants people to know how dangerous shots like this could be.
