Leonard Pope visits Phoebe Sumter hospital

A NFL tight end and former UGA football star came home to Americus Tuesday to see the new Phoebe Sumter hospital.

Leonard Pope got a tour and took pictures with employees.

He was born at the old Sumter Regional Hospital that was destroyed by a tornado in 2007.

Pope brought his daughter along for the tour. He says it's great to see Americus growing.

"It makes me feel pretty good," said Pope. "Just seeing how far we have come since Sumter Regional Hospital and now to Phoebe Sumter medical. It's nice. A lot of people are here right now. I'm just glad to be here."

Phoebe Sumter opened in December.

Pope partnered with the hospital to promote active lifestyles for children in the community.
