ALBANY, GA -
A scam warning from the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office may have kept a north Georgia business from losing thousands of dollars to con artists.
The Galore Company in Buford reported this man came into their store Friday and tried to pull a gold buying bait and switch.
They had seen the warning from Albany and didn't fall for it. This is surveillance video. Likely of the same con man.
From January 25th at Albany Gold and Silver Buyers.
He substituted fake gold for real gold and ripped off the store for eight thousand dollars. He got $9,000 the same day from a Valdosta gold buyer.
The Buford company stopped the con by only offering to pay him by check.
"So he refused to take the check and he was trying to see if they would give him cash instead of a check. And they wouldn't do that, so he decided to leave and not do business with the company," said Lt. Anita Allen, Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.
The Buford store say the con man had gold teeth, and was driving the same KIA Optima.
Sheriff's Investigators were also alerted to this suspected con man, who looks a lot like the gold teeth bandit. He pulled a bait and switch con with a check at a bank in Iowa last week.
If you recognize the man, call the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office at 431-3222.
