VALDOSTA, GA -
Shopping in a downed economy may be the last thing on many people's minds.
For those of us who do shop we're out looking for a bargain.
At the Valdosta Junior Service League's First Annual Tossed and Found Thrift Sale you can find high quality items at low prices and it's for a good cause.
Clothes hung up Friday will be sold at bargain prices Saturday. Members of the Valdosta Junior Service League have collected thousands of items since last summer to raise money for the Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, a group that serves 11,000 people in need each year.
"We just hope to help them as much as we possibly can," said member Jennifer Denham. We know more and more people are using their services and that puts more of a strain on their operation."
LAMP helps folks with their rent and utility bills, gives them food, provides shelter and health care assistance.
You can purchase all kinds of new or gently used items at the Junior Service League's first annual Tossed and Found thrift sale.
I even saw a couple pairs of shoes designer shoes for $3.
"Yes that have barely been worn or haven't been worn at all," said member Casey Kennedy.
"Anyone that was willing to give us good quality items, we've taken them off their hands and cleaned them up and got them priced ready to sell," said Denham.
With prom just around the corner you can get a dress at a good deal.
There's also sporting goods, furniture, electronics, strollers, toys, and home décor.
The benefit is two fold, giving folks a good deal and supporting LAMP, the organization that serves the growing population of people in need. The event starts at 8 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lowndes County Fairgrounds.
