ALBANY, GA -
One other drain on our water resources would be if the plants started to blossom.
And with the warm weather, that's exactly what's happening.
Flowers like these in downtown Albany are already blossoming.
While some varieties like Japanese Magnolias naturally bloom early, these apple trees have also gotten an early start, sprouting flowers about a month ahead of schedule.
While the weather is unusually warm now, it's only early February and its likely that more cold weather will invade the area.
If it does, gardeners have some tips for protecting your plants.
Greg Daniell, the owner of ABC Plant Nursery said, "you can either do one of two things if you have a tree that's already planted. You can either not worry about it and hope that it doesn't hurt it or you can wrap it up with a blanket, or you can ice it over."
Icing a tree over involves turning on the sprinklers and coating the tree with ice, which protects it from the cold.
Daniell says that he's had customers tell him that they've seen their tea olive plants blossom. That's also about a month before they should.
