GSP Albany Post damaged

Posted: Updated:

State troopers want a driver who crashed into the Albany post building to surrender.

The awning behind the building on U.S. 19 South was damaged Tuesday night.

There is broken glass where two light valances were smashed when a blue 8 foot high truck drove under the low roof.

The truck also hit a natural gas line that goes across that awning to a generator. Water Gas and Light techs say if that pipe had broken, it could have set off an explosion. Troopers want to talk to the driver.

Georgia State Patrol Sgt. First Class Shawn Urquhart said "We're asking them to at least come and talk to us. Maybe they just got stuck. It's not like we are going to just go out and prosecute them. At least just be honest about it."

Troopers are using surveillance video to try to track down the driver, but they're giving the driver a chance to come in voluntarily. They decided not to show us the video.

You can call the GSP Post at 430-6585.
