Allen addresses Lee County Tea Party

Posted: Updated:

LEESBURG (WALB) – A Republican looking to unseat second district Congressman Sanford Bishop made a stop Tuesday night in Lee County.

Rick Allen spoke to tea party activists.

He says the second district needs new leadership to take a conservative voice to Washington.

"I think people have had enough. It's also an important time in our nation's history and this is a very historic election. I think it's time the voters of every persuasion are tired of his politics. I think it's a great time for him to be voted out," said Allen.

The Columbus resident says he looks forward to campaigning in District 2 which now contains more of Muscogee County and stretches into parts of Macon.

Allen lost in the GOP congressional primary two years ago to Mike Keown.

John House is the only other announced Republican candidate.
