Posted: Updated:

A special treat for racing fans this weekend as several NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will be in Cordele for the Champion Racing Association Speed Fest 2012.  Kyle Busch and Unadilla native David Ragan highlight a field of over 60 drivers that are at the Watermelon Capital Speedway this weekend. The drivers took part in some practice rounds on Saturday.

The CRA and ARCA will feature Super Series late models. There will be 350 laps of short track racing come Sunday afternoon. 2nd generation stars in Ross Kenseth and Chase Elliot will also be in attendance.

Meanwhile,, Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch says the event is a good way to stay fresh during the off-season while also getting back to where he started at the local tracks.

Busch said "Being in the off-season I'm always itching to get behind the wheel of something and get racing so for me it's a great opportunity to kind of wake up you'd say and get ready for the new year. It's fun for me,I enjoy doing it. This is kind of my background how I grew up coming through the ranks and I always try to get back to the local tracks.  Hopefully we will see a great crowd out here at David Ragan's home track and we can put on a good show for the fans Sunday afternoon."

There will be practice sessions and qualifying beginning at 9:00 am Saturday morning.

The gates open at 11:00am Sunday morning at the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele. There is a $20.00 charge for adults, $10.00 for students and $35.00 for a pitt pass
