Trees are blooming already around town and most of the country doesn't have to worry about outside allergens, but not here in Southwest Georgia. Pollen is already in the low to medium range.
"It is getting busier and it is getting busier every day," said allergist Dr. Joe Theck.
Dr. Theck says it isn't unusual for his office to see more visitors this time of year complaining about their allergies.
"The spring season usually starts in March, but here, in February or late January we are already starting the spring season from the tree pollens," said Dr. Theck.
Forecasters expect pollen numbers to increase as we head into the weekend.
"Because we don't have a frost, most of the time something will be blooming and if you have allergies, you are being hit with some type of pollen almost all the time," said Dr. Theck.
He suggests engaging in outside activities in the early morning and late evening as pollen numbers peak after 10 in the morning.
"Close the doors so the outdoor pollen does not come in to the house and also in the car make sure you are closing your windows because the free air will bring the pollen in the car or your house," Dr. Theck continued.
Allergy season hasn't officially started yet, but doctors say it's never too early to prepare.
Dr. Theck says now is the time to go ahead and get those allergy shots out of the way before your symptoms get worse.
If you're not diagnose with allergies, but believe you may have some problems, you should see a board certified allergist.
