Albany, Ga. -
The city of Albany agrees to a new deal to keep the Albany Panthers in town for another five years.
City commissioners approved a new lease to allow the arena football team to continue to play at the Albany Civic Center through 2016. The lease reduces the rent the team pays and allows the Panthers to keep a greater percentage of concession revenue.
The team Panthers General Manager says it's good for the team and the city to lock up a long-term agreement.
General manager, Will Carter says, "We are just trying to extend our contract back to a five year deal to be playing here in Albany until 2016, and we just want to move forward here and play football."
The team owner agreed to provide new financial information to the city to prove he and the team are stable. The new lease was necessary because the Panthers are playing in a new league this year, the Professional Indoor Football League.
