Quitman Police are trying to find suspected counterfeiters.
Troopers set up a road check there.
Police say as one driver spotted the road block. He or she tossed thousands of dollars of funny money out a window and took off.
Forty-seven hundred dollars in counterfeit money was found in Quitman. Police say the bills like this have the same serial number. The money was scattered near the intersection of Courtland Avenue and Madison Street.
"As the citizen called it in, there were people picking it up," said Quitman Police Chief Wesley Ross.
Police believe the money was thrown out of a vehicle which turned around to avoid a road check up the hill.
Ameris Bank says people need to watch out for counterfeit money.
"The newer ones have the water mark which you can see through when you hold it up," said teller Jeanette Carter. "It feels a little rougher or something which is smoother."
Police are following leads and called in the secret service. Right now they don't have any suspects. @
Quitman Police hope to find fingerprints on the bills that might lead them to a suspect.
