South Georgia roofers have had more than 250 calls about hail damage in Dougherty, Lee, and Terrell Counties.
Marble to golf ball-sized hail fell Saturday in several communities.
Some piling up an inch deep.
Saturday's storms damaged everything from windows, to roofs, to cars. Roofers say with stricter insurance guidelines, you need to think twice about making a claim, because it may not be worth it and it could count against you.
When hail pelted Dougherty,Terrell, and Lee Counties Saturday, this is the damage it left behind. Just look at the sides of these windows, quarter size chunks missing where the hail hit this home on Pebble Ridge Drive in Lee County.
"It broke some of the vinyl on the sides of these windows, you also see on the shingles, you'll see bruising, and of course a lot of granule loss," said Ken Drawdy, Drawdy Roofing Owner.
Ken Drawdy says there was so much hail piled up in a shady spot next to this home, it didn't all melt until yesterday.
"Right here in the flower bed we still had over an inch of hail," said Drawdy.
It dimpled the aluminum roof on the back of this garage.
"A lot of this dimpling that you see right here, all of this is from the hail," said Drawdy.
Broke off chunks of porch lights, rendered the umbrella unusable, and even left its imprint on the wooden deck.
"I've got a house around the corner that all of the columns are going to have to be replaced, because it knocked all the paint off of them and dented and I can't sand it out," said Drawdy.
Making the repairs could be costly, roofers say it's not something you should rush to fix.
"If you turn in a claim and you don't have hail damage it does count against you, don't let a roofer come out here, a lot of these guys are coming out here knocking on doors just telling you to turn in a claim do not do that," said Drawdy.
Find a licensed roofer who has workers comp. insurance to give you an estimate to see if it's even worth turning in. According to Drawdy Roofing most insurance policies will give you a year from the date of the storm to file a claim, giving you time to watch your roof to ensure there are no problems before you rush into what could be a costly repair.
Making those repairs won't be cheap, roofers say so far their estimates are between $10,000 and $20,000.
Advantage Vinyl Siding told us they've had more than 60 calls since Saturday.
Drawdy Roofing had more than 100. We couldn't leave messages for some companies because their voice mails were full.
