LOWNDES COUNTY, GA -

A Valdosta radio DJ shot to death overnight and his killer remains on the loose.

Stephon Edgerton, known as Juan Gatti on radio station V96, was gunned down just outside the door of the Lowndes County studio where we was working the night shift.

Edgerton had only been working the night shift for about 3 months. He had just gotten off work and was leaving the radio station. That is when the gunman opened fire.

Just feet away from front door of WGOV radio station in Valdosta, blood stains are a haunting reminder of a deadly overnight shooting.

"Evidently someone was out waiting on him and just started shooting," says Harvey Lamar Freeman, Radio Announcer.

Harvey Freeman worked as a DJ alongside Stephon Edgerton, who was known as Juan Gatti to his listeners on V-96.

"Pretty good guy, Jolly, loved people, loved to cook, sing, play and instrument in church, just a very pleasant guy to be around," says Freeman.

Edgerton was shot twice in the body and once in the head as he was leaving work just after midnight.

"It was sad and shocking because he was married with three kids, small kids," says Freeman.

He managed to call 911 and told emergency workers he was shot by a man wearing a mask. He was rushed to South Georgia Medical center, but he did not survive.

"It is senseless you know, no idea, everybody is really shocked out here," says Freeman.

Lowndes County Sheriff's investigators have not arrested any suspects, but are working on a few leads.

"Hopefully they do the right thing and get the right person," says Freeman.

Edgerton worked for WGOV for about 6 years. Officials say they are following every lead they get to find the shooter.

If you have any information on the shooting, you are asked to call the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
