TURNER CO., GA (WALB) -

A Turner County deputy accused of taking something that didn't belong to him was arrested Tuesday and is in danger of losing his job.

Deputy Angel Olivas surrendered Tuesday afternoon and was booked on charges of misdemeanor theft by taking and violation of his oath of office.

He's accused of taking a flashlight from a car during a traffic stop on I-75 in late September.

Sheriff Andy Hester says cleaning up Turner County starts with cleaning up the Sheriff's office.

"He is on administrative leave with pay right this minute," said Sheriff Hester. "He did turn himself in today and I'll make a determination on his work status."

Olivas has worked for the Turner County Sheriff's office since 2008.
