Man loses legs trying to hop train

TURNER CO., GA (WALB) -

A Turner County man is fighting for his life, after he tried to jump on a moving train Monday night. 31-year-old Thomas Narron Jr. is in ICU at Tift Regional Medical Center.

We're told Narron and his cousins were at Bobby's Food Mart on Highway 112 in Rebecca, Georgia.

On their way leaving the store, Narron decided he would jump on the passing train. According to witnesses, he fell, and the southbound CSX train cut off his legs below the knees.

The train kept moving and deputies called CSX to let them know what happened.  When EMS arrived, Narron was unresponsive.

"It's a good reason why not to do it," said Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester. "You usually don't win when you're trying to do anything with a train or on that railroad property. You need to stay off that property unless you're crossing at a crossing."

Paramedics kept him alive and got him to Tift Regional Hospital.

Deputies recovered the severed legs, and the paramedics took them to the hospital. Narron is on life support, in critical condition.

We don't know if doctors will be able to re-attach them. In fact, Narron may not survive at all.
