Willacoochee mayoral candidate challenging results

Posted: Updated:

WILLACOOCHEE (WALB) – A man who ran for Mayor of Willacoochee and lost to the incumbent candidate by just 4 votes says he believes there were voting irregularities.

Gary Hall appealed the results in court, but a judge ruled the incumbent would remain the winner.

Now he wants to appeal that ruling.

An attorney for Hall said a Thomas County judge heard the case in Atkinson County court and ruled that long time Mayor Lace Futch was the outright winner of the race.

Hall's attorney says testimony was presented at the hearing in which it was revealed that at least two of the votes cast in the November 8th municipal election shouldn't have been counted. One of those votes was cast by a convicted felon and another by a person who was not a resident of Willacoochee.

Hall has not yet filed that appeal but says he plans to do so soon.

Our calls to Mayor Futch were not returned.

Hall plans to hold a press conference to address the matter.
