Six college students are still looking for homes Tuesday after they were burned out of their Lowndes County apartments Friday.

Eighteen people were forced out of their apartments when fire broke out at the Carriage Crossing apartments. Tuesday 12 of them have found places to live.

Firefighters are trying to find the cause of a fire in the small town of Remerton. It took them about two hours to get that Carriage Crossing blaze contained Friday. Tenants from the six occupied units had to evacuate. One of them Drayden Sears was burned. He went to South Georgia Medical Center but he's out now.

"He said he was inside his apartment laying on the sofa and he thought he saw shadows on his balcony," said Remerton Fire Chief Ron Woods.

It was flames burning the vinyl siding.

"It had dripped into a cooler that was burning," said Woods. "He attempted to grab a cooler that was on fire and throw it over the balcony and that's when he sustained his burns."

It burned his arms and face. He knocked on the doors to notify the others.

The Red Cross says they're assisting the tenants including a family with five children. One neighbor says he knows two of the victims.

"I gave them hugs and reassurred them everything would be okay," said Remi Obsanya. "It takes a while to get over losing everything all your personal belongings."

Neighbors say personal belongings can be replaced but a life a can't and they're glad everyone survived.

The property owner, Anchor Realty, says they're working with those who need a place to live. The Red Cross gave out about five thousand dollars worth of food, clothing and shelter to the families.
