LOWNDES COUNTY, GA -

Fire fighters are still on the scene of a Lowndes County blaze that heavily damaged an apartment building in Remerton.

Firefighters found flames shooting through the roof of the Carriage Crossing Apartments on Green Street. It broke out around 2:30 Friday afternoon.

A college student who lives in the complex went to the hospital with burns. We don't know his name yet but the Remerton Fire Chief Ron Woods says the man knocked on doors to get about eight other tenants out.

"The second level balcony was on fire and when you drove by you could just feel the heat coming off the building," said witness Bragan Hughes.

"I was on the balcony at my apartment and saw smoke," said Cedric Lipsey.

That apartment fire is under investigation.
