For most of us, Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior is an icon, a larger than life figure from history. But for many people who took part in the Albany movement, he was a friend.
And they have special memories of their time with him.
"Doc was a down home man," said Charles Sherod. "He could dance. He played pool. He sang, he sang in a quartet. But when he got up into that pulpit, he was bad. I can hear his voice now."
"He didn't think he was above anyone. He wasn't interested in riches. He was just interested in seeing his people free," said Rutha Harris.
Charles Sherrod and Rutha Harris told us Dr. King was extremely humble, approachable, and easy to talk to.
