LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Are hard boiled eggs or deviled eggs on your list of favorite holiday foods but you really hate having to peel the shell off and all that mess? Well, the Eggies promise to peel that headache away by making hard boiled eggs the shell free, mess free way. So I put them to the test as I 'Try It Before You Buy It.'
The 'Eggies' come with a half dozen egg cups so you can make a half dozen hard-boiled eggs. We bought the product at a local store for about ten bucks. But there's a few steps beforehand that you need to make before you start.
According to the directions, you are to use cooking oil or spray to coat the egg cups. The best way is to put the oil on a paper towel and then gently coat the inside of both the top and bottom of the cups before adding your egg. Once that's complete, then you assemble the 'Eggies' by screwing together the bottom and top portions. Leave the top screw off in order to fill the cups with egg. Once you've cracked the eggs into the cups, then tighten down the top cap securely. Make sure you tighten down the top portion and the middle connector well, then proceed to boil the eggs.
After the test it looks like the 'Eggies' live up to what they say they'll do! The finished product doesn't look like your normal hard boiled egg though. They are flat on the bottom due to the design of the 'Eggies' cups. The only thing I noticed that I really didn't care for was the mess it leaves behind in the pot you boil the eggs in. Mine leaked a bit and allowed some of the egg whites to seep out of the cups making a big mess in my pot. But, overall I think the 'Eggies' performed really well!
