Moody AFB announces civilian layoffs

Posted: Updated:

VALDOSTA (WALB) – Nearly 40 civilian workers at Moody Air Force base will lose their jobs.

Moody released a statement Wednesday announcing the cuts.

It did not say exactly where or when the cuts will be made.

The Air Force is restructuring its work force in response to a directive from the Secretary of Defense to reduce and maintain its civilian workforce at 2010 levels.

23rd Wing Commander Colonel Billy Thompson said in the current budget environment... the Air Force can't continue to do business the way they've been doing it.

Approximately 375 civilians are employed at Moody.
