When most of us head out the door to work every morning, we don't worry about whether we'll make it back home at night. But that is a real concern for law enforcers who work so hard to protect us.
Unfortunately, the danger of their job hit home last week when Albany Police Officer Terry Lewis-Flemming was killed in a fiery crash as she chased two suspected armed robbers.
Those suspects are rightly now charged with murdering Lewis-Flemming because their careless and criminals acts led to her death.
Of course, that brings little comfort to her family, friends, and co-workers. By all accounts, Terry Lewis-Flemming was a model police officer, a fine public servant who represented our city and our police department well.
She recently got married and will be sorely missed by her loved ones and co-workers.
To them, we send our deepest sympathies. We express our gratitude to them for Lewis-Flemming's dedicated service. And we say thanks to all the first responders around south Georgia who put their lives on the line for us every day.
