ALBANY (WALB) - Bond was denied for two men charged with murdering an Albany Police Officer who crashed during a high speed chase.

Officer Terry Lewis-Flemming (36).  Flemming had been with the department for five years.

Flemming died from injuries when two police cars collided in a high speed chase of two armed robbery suspects about 3:30 Friday afternoon.

The two Police cars collided with one another at East Residence and Blaylock Avenue during the chase.

Flemming's patrol car burst into flames.

A second officer, Greg Batson, was injured but survived.

Felony Murder has been added to the list of charges brought against two men who led police on a high speed chase that resulted in the death of an Albany Police officer.

Kentrell Bernard Butler, 22, and Wesley Martavi Wilkerson, 22, are both charged with Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, 3 Counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a Crime.

The chase continued to Turner Field Road and Schilling Avenue where the robbery vehicle overturned and the two men were captured.

In the wrecked car, Police found a gun and a bag of money believed taken in the robbery of Consolidated Loan at 425 Pine Avenue about 3:30pm Friday.

The fleeing felons rammed several pursuing police cars until they rolled their getaway car, and then they tried to fight officers who arrested them.

Authorities have recovered money and a gun.

Police Chief John Proctor said numerous agencies were notified that officers were involved in a chase of armed robbers.

Albany Fire Department units responded to the fire, and the area was covered by law enforcement personnel.

Officer Flemming is survived by her husband and three children.

"We lost one of our most finest officers, a lady that had so much to give to this community, and she lost her life doing what she wanted to do," says Chief Proctor.
