JACKSON, GA (WTOC/WTVM) - Jason Ewart, an attorney for Davis, told WTOC that one more appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court remains.

Supporters for death row inmate Troy Davis continue to arrive outside the prison, where he is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 7 p.m.

Davis was convicted in 1991 of the fatal shooting of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989. This is the fourth time that Davis has been set to be executed. His case has been in the courts for more than 20 years.

Several hundred protesters are standing outside the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Ga., chanting and holding out hope that Davis's life will be spared. Security and checkpoints are patrolling the grounds of the facility.

"We are here for two reasons. One praying for another miracle because it happened in 2008. Secondly to say whatever happens it will not happen in silence. People are outraged, we need to have laws that protect people from facing death sentences based on eye witness testimony alone," said Rev. Al Sharpton.

"We'll have to get through the anger, the disappointment and despair of this night and hold on to our hope for a day when there is no death penalty," said Sara Tontonchi, a protester. "I'm confident the death penalty will end in my lifetime."

"Just my faith is telling me that if a person is innocent - whatever type of support I can give them, I'm willing to make the drive to come," said Venson Rump, a protester.

In Savannah, there are about 30 people standing outside City Hall on Wednesday night, holding a prayer vigil for Davis. Sheriff's deputies are standing outside the Chatham County courthouse.

A group of Davis supporters from Chatham County delivered a petition to the Chatham County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday morning calling on him to take action.

But on Tuesday night, Chisholm made it clear that he cannot do anything to stop the execution.

After dropping off those petitions, those supporters traveled to Jackson, Ga.
