ATLANTA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles on Tuesday denied clemency for death row inmate Troy Davis.

Davis's attorneys went before the parole board to request clemency at a hearing Monday morning. The board of pardons and paroles heard testimony from witnesses and family members, and even jurors from the 1991 trial who say they now believe there is doubt in the case. Outside the building, Davis supporters rallied for his clemency.

"Obviously we're disappointed, but we're going to visit Troy today. He's in good spirits, and we're going to keep him in good spirits. We will continue to fight until there's no avenues to take," said Martina Correria, Davis's sister, in a statement.

Davis has been on death row since 1991, when he was convicted of the fatal shooting of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989.

Because he was denied clemency, Davis is still scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 7 p.m. Wednesday. This is the fourth time an execution date has been set for Davis.

Amnesty International and the NAACP announced a news conference will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Horizon Sanctuary of Ebenezer Baptist Church at 407 Auburn Ave. in Atlanta in response to the decision to deny Davis clemency by the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Amnesty International and NAACP plan to protest on the steps of the state capitol. The groups have called for a "Day of Protest" and for people everywhere to wear black armbands with "not in my name" written on them.
