A head-on collision in Lowndes County killed a woman and sent another driver to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Early Thursday morning, the driver of a truck crossed into oncoming traffic on Georgia Highway 125 and crashed into a car.

47-year-old Sheila F. Lamb was driving her Ford Fusion, which was struck head on by the Nissan Titan driven by 26-year-old Jesse Noah of Lakeland.

Neighbors are saddened by the accident heard the crash.  "It sounded like something blew up, boom! Just a lot of noise, that's why I started to panic," said Elizabeth Crawford.

The accident happened around  6:00AM on Georgia 125 just south of Barretts Road. It shut down the road for about five hours.

"There was debris all over the road from both vehicles; it was impassible," said Georgia State Patrol TFC Israel Hendley.

Troopers aren't sure why the driver of the truck crossed the doubled yellow line on this highway.

"The lady in the car had her seat belt on, and the man in the truck did not have his seat belt on," said Hendley. "He was headed north she was headed south."

Noah was ejected from the truck. Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson says Lamb died on impact. Noah was taken to South Georgia Medical Center then airlifted to Shands in Gainesville.

Moody Air Force Base confirms Lamb worked at the Youth Center. Elizabeth Crawford says her husband is related to the Lamb family and she sends her condolences.

The specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
