D. A. studies internet Cafe issue

The Dougherty District Attorney says he is waiting on the state's definition of illegal activity before moving to shut down any internet sweepstakes cafes.

A statewide investigation is now underway into internet cafes.  The governor says many internet cafes are illegal gambling parlors.

Dougherty D. A. Greg Edwards says he wants more guidelines from the Governor and Attorney General about what is legal for the businesses to do.

"These individuals believe that they are operating within the bounds of the law. But there is certainly an issue before our executive authority, our legal authority, and our legislative authority about how these internet cafes are going to continue to function."

Albany City Commissioners just passed a 120 day moratorium on the businesses. Customers pay for internet time or phone cards then can play sweepstakes online.
