An Albany State University student is at Phoebe Putney Hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the thigh.
19 Trey Walker saw police conducting a series of gang raids, thought police were closing in on him for the shooting, and turned himself in to them.
Walker admitted to the shooting at ASU.
The initial investigation by law enforcement revealed the shooting happened over discount party tickets. Campus police say around 10:30 Thursday night, a female student reported hearing gun shots.
Two hours later, Phoebe Putney Hospital staff called Albany Police, and told them about a student who was shot on campus.
ASU Police tell us three students in a car were on their way to meet a non-student to buy discount party tickets.
The victim with money in hand, got in the suspect's truck to make the buy. Police say the shooter pulled out a gun and tried to rob the student.
A fight happened and the ASU student was shot in the thigh. We're told the victim's friends rushed him to the hospital.
The chief says Walker made a quick getaway, so quick he left his cell phone. Campus police soon had access to his pictures, contacts and video.
