A great start in the playoffs with a 21-5 record. Just didn't have the guts to go with my heart in picking Newnan and got the wrong upset in AAAA with Bainbridge and Thomas County Central. I did however pick Lowndes to win at Stephenson and Monroe to beat Baldwin (thank you to the Tornadoes)
AAAAA
Lowndes at Grayson: The Vikings head back to Atlanta and don't have two weeks to prepare for a very good and #2 ranked Grayson Rams team. This game is rematch of Grayson's win over the Vikings in 2008 which signaled the Rams arrival as an elite team in AAAAA. The characters may have changed but I believe this Lowndes team is peaking when it counts the most...Lowndes 15-14
Colquitt Co. at North Gwinnnett: The Packers are in a familiar place in the state playoffs the road. Colquitt Co. 27-20
AAAA
Clarke Central at Northside WR- Two of the state's top programs in tradition meet in a key playoff game. Eagles I don't believe will get tripped up again early in the playoffs..Northside 17-14
Warner Robins at Chattahoochee: I really like the Demons as a sleeper in their bracket but they gave up too many points last week for my liking...Chattahoochee 28-21
Thomas Co. Central at Flowery Branch: The young Yellow Jackets pulled one of the biggest 4-1 upsets last week. Coach Bill Shaver believes his schedule has his team ready for the postseason. The Falcons though have also played some good teams.. Flowery Branch 29-24
AAA
Stephens Co. at Cairo: Syrupmakers finally gave up some points last week but I think home field will help this week...Cairo 16-10
Monroe at Gainesville: Tornadoes have played two of their best games in recent memories in back to back weeks. Gainesville is a good a team and Monroe has limited success on the road.. But they can throw the ball to make it interesting..Gainesville 28-22
AA
Adairsville at Fitzgerald: The Purple Hurricanes offense has been unstoppable all season and and I think that trend continues this week...Fitzgerald 36-18
Brooks Co. at Calhoun: Trojans draw a tough second round matchup against the Yellow Jackets who have been a bridesmaid to Buford lately. Calhoun won a close one a few years back in Quitman....I don't know if the Trojans can win this one on the road..Calhoun 33-26
Cook at Elbert Co.: The Hornets are at home on the road in the playoffs...Cook 25-13
A
Wilkinson Co. at Seminole Co.: The scoreboard in Donalsonville is going ask for time and a half on Saturday morning...Seminole 46-40
Aquinas at Wilcox Co.: The Patriots need to be ready for an Aquinas team that also has an explosive offense..Wilcox Co. 41-32
Charlton Co. at Prince Avenue: The Indians head to Athens to take on a Prince Avenue team that has been rolling all season... Charlton 28-19
Clinch Co. at Lincoln Co.: Two of the state's top teams in Class A meet again and I think the Panthers are just too young to make it to the quarterfinals...Lincoln Co. 22-8
Bremen at Marion Co.: The Eagles are probably the most overlooked team in Class A but appear to be very good. I wouldn't put too much into the fact the other three teams from region 4 were beaten last week..Marion Co. 28-7

AAA
Stratford at Deerfield-Windsor: Eagles won the first meeting early in the season in Macon. Knights are a different team now..DWS 24-14
Westfield at Tattnall Square: Trojans are wanting a rematch with the DWS..Tattnall 23-13
AA
Edmund Burke at Valwood: This is a game of Edmund Burke's physical game against the speed of Valwood... I am taking speed..Valwood 27-25
Brentwood at Piedmont: Piedmont is headed back to the finals..Piedmont 35-14
A
Thomas Jefferson at Westwood: Wildcats roll again..Westwood 38-8
Terrell Academy at Memorial: Matadors and Westwood meet again..Memorial 44-20
November 9, 2011,
21-7 was a great way to close out the regular season especially after having three games go to overtime. The playoffs are here and I don't have a lot of time so I am going discount store picks..

22-8 is one of my poorest showings in a while but I will take it after Halloween weekend and all of the big games. This week may be the most difficult to pick when you look at the matchups. Crossing my fingers now.
Westover vs Monroe: The winner isn't an automatic for the state playoffs but the loser is out. Westover showed a great pasing game with T.J. Cromer at QB last week against Americus but there is speculation he may be injured and unable to play this week. Monroe has a talented young QB in sophomore Charles Stafford with plenty of weapons around him..This is a rivalry game and emotions will be running high...Westover 26-24
Crisp Co. at Worth Co: The pivotal game in determing the 1-AAA playoff picture. Cougars are winless in their two region games and the Rams have had two weeks to prepare. Worth County coach Scotty Ward will have his team ready for this must win game..Rams 19-15
Americus-Sumter at Cairo: The winner claims the region title. Cairo has shown some signs of weakness and the Panthers have a very good defense. Offense has been too inconsistent for my liking in this game..Cairo 17-8
Colquitt Co. at Valdosta: The winner claims region title. Packers have been impressive through the region schedule with a very good offense and an improved defense. Valdosta lives on defense and the Cats have had two weeks to rest and prepare.... Packers 32.5-21 (tiebreaker experts please note the attempt at humor)
Thomas Co. Central at Bainbridge: The battle of the veer option to decide 3rd and 4th in 1-AAAA. Bearcats are at home but I think the Jackets have more weapons on offense.. TC Central 22-21
Albany at Cook: Hornets clinch a playoff berth with a win. Indians have played better but it doesn't show in the standings. Albany High win gives them a 5-5 record which is quite an accomplishment for a team that has had 3 0-10 seasons in the last ten years... Cook 34-22
Brooks Co. at Early Co.: Trojans are looking for the train that rolled through Quitman last week from Fitzgerald. Early County needs a win and a Cook loss to make the playoffs... Brooks 36-29
Calhoun Co. at Pelham: Hornets are fighting for their playoff lives and face a much improved a Calhoun County team that needs to learn how to win on the road..Pelham 23-15
Mitchell Co. at Terrell Co.: Greenwave make the playoffs with a win and hope to catch Mitchell County looking forward to next week's first round playoff game.. Eagles will be ready I am afraid for the Dawson faithful... Mitchell Co. 37-18
Lanier Co. at Bacon Co.: A big game since the winner makes the playoffs and the season ends for the loser. Both of these teams are much improved but the Red Raiders have been tough in Alma this year.. Bacon Co. 28-21
Clinch Co. at Charlton Co.: The Swamp Bowl determies 2nd and 3rd place in the region. Panthers have been improving week by week but the Indians are always tough in Folkston...Charlton 15-12
Dooly Co. at Marion Co.: Bobcats would love to enter the playoffs by upsetting the region champion Eagles just like they did last year. Marion coming off big win against Brookstone and likely remembers last year's game at the Bobcat Grove....Marion Co. 20-18
Southland at Deerfield-Windsor: Knights could be primed for a letdown after last week's win over Westfield. Southland would love to end their season by beating their biggest rival. I think this game will be close..DWS 28-22
Southwest Georgia at Brookwood: This game is for a playoff berth between the two teams who have the same nickname. SGA has been inconsistent of late and Brookwood has been very good at home...Brookwood 36-32
Randolph-Southern at Terrell Academy: Patriots have had a long season and face their big rival who is coming off a very tough loss last week at Westwood..TAE 42-25

October 26, 2011
Another four loss week with 24 wins and I did very well in the close matchups. I was in the teens on my pick but I was right about Cook winning by a point over Early County. It is about to time I got that close to an actual score. This week is likely the biggest of the regular season. I am hoping to continue my roll.
Early Co. at Albany (Thursday): This game is must win for both teams because the loser is realistically out of the playoff hunt. Early County has to wonder when they are going to win a close game while Albany was able to push Brooks County. Short week and Albany High lis at home...Albany 27-25
Fitzgerald at Brooks Co.: The big showdown is finally here for the 1-AA title. Both teams have offenses that score on any play any where on the field. Fitzgerald has a very good pass defense but their defensive front is on the small side. Wish I could cover this one... Brooks Co. 36-34
Cook at Thomasville: Another equally big game in this region. The Bulldogs clinch third place with a win. Hornets still have to beat Albany next week. This game should be another defensive battle. Thomasville 18-16
Colquitt Co. at Coffee: The Trojans can clinch the region title with a win at home against the Packers. Something that didn't seem possible when they lost their starting QB in their first game. Trojans still have weapons and do a great job of getting the ball to Tyreek Hill. Packers have had two weeks to get ready. Another close one at Jardine...Colquitt Co. 38-25
Lowndes at Tift Co.: A Vikings team expected to win the region title has to win their last regular season game to make the playoffs. Tift County won last year in Valdosta. Vikings have not forgotten...Lowndes 32-15
Bainbridge at Lee Co.: Trojans offense has been scoring late and coach Dean Fabrizio does a good job getting his defense ready for the Pilcher veer. Bainbridge 29-25
Warner Robins at T.C. Central: The Jackets are on the road for a Saturday afternoon showdown. A TCC loss means they will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs. Demons won a defensive showdown last week in Bainbridge....TC Central 24-21
Westover at Americus-Sumter: Panthers are back after what is like a well time bye week for them. Patriots mental state cannot be good after second half collapse to Cairo...Americus-Sumter 20-12
Crisp Co. at Cairo: Syrupmakers are back at home to close out the regular season. Whatever Tom Fallaw said at halftime last week at Hugh Mills could be bottled and sold for millions...Cairo 22-14
Seminole Co. at Miller Co.: The Indians can clinch the region title with a win. This rivalry is truly one where the records mean nothing. Miller County is one of the most improved teams over the course of the season. Seminole still has too much speed..Seminole 34-19
Calhoun Co. at Randolph-Clay: The Cougars face what is a must win game when it comes to making the playoffs. Red Devils have a solid ground game and this one should be just as entertaining as any game on the schedule...R-C 26-23
Bacon Co. at Wilcox Co.: Patriots are back after an open week and look to clinch the region title. Wilcox Co. 39-18
Pelham at Mitchell Co. (Saturday): The battle for Mitchell County bragging rights is big. The Hornets need a win to help their chances. Eagles wrap up a first round playoff game at home..Mitchell Co. 27-18
Deerfield-Windsor at Westfield: The GISA 1-AAA showdown takes place in Perry. Knights have plenty of playmakers in the backfield and the Hornets are just as good espeicially on defense. I thnk the NFC loss has the Knights ready for this battle...DWS 25-22
Southland at Bethesda: If The Raiders have any chance of making the playoffs they have to beat the Blazers in Savannah. The road has not been kind for Southland. Their two region losses have been by five points. Southland 36-30
Brookwood at Heritage: The Warriors are on the road for a battle with a Heritage team coming off a incredible win at Southwest Georgia. Kevin Prisant has done a great job with this Heritage team but I don't think they will have the SGA game out of their system and the Warriors have had two weeks to get ready.. Brookwood 29-22
Terrell Academy at Westwood: These two rivals meet once again for the region title. The Wildcats smallest margin of victory was 13 points to SGA in the first week. Terrell Academy is a good team but their defense has given up a lot of points. Not a good sign going up against Westwood. Westwood 36-31

October 19, 2011
It was a rough start with three losses in my first four games but I rallied to finish with 24-4 record for the week. Getting closer to the playoffs and teams will turn up the effort this week.
Cairo at Westover: Westover showed they are a legitimate title contender in 1-AAA last week against Crisp while the Syrupmakers showed a soft spot in their armor after they almost blew a big lead and won in OT over Worth. Almost is the key word. Syrupmakers roll out passing game will be the difference.... Cairo 20-12
Monroe at Crisp Co.: The undercard in 1-AAA is just as big with the loser facing a tough battle to earn a playoff bid. Both teams play great defense. Monroe has I think the better passing QB while the Cougars have the taller receivers. Too bad the two offenses cannot combine that talent. Crisp Co. 14-12
Coffee at Lowndes: The Trojans are 2-0 and battling for the region title in 1-AAAAA. The good news is they can lose this game and still win the region title by beating Colquitt County. The bad news they face a Vikings team that has lost two straight..Lowndes 35-14
Tift Co. at Valdosta: The Wildcats stumped their toe last week at Douglas where a 2nd half fumble sent them to a region loss. The Blue Devils are back in the playoff picture but Valdosta is thinking about winning a region title in two weeks...Valdosta 17-10
Warner Robins at Bainbridge: The battle for second in 1-AAAA starts tonight and likely runs for the next three weeks. Bearcats I think may have the edge at home... Bainbridge 22-15
Lee Co. at Thomas Co. Central: The Jackets looking to rebound after getting humbled at home last week by Northside... TCC 42-21
Albany at Brooks Co.: The Indians are hoping to catch the Trojans thinking about Fitzgerald. If so, Albany High can pull the upset. Malcolm Parrish showed he is clutch last week..Brooks Co. 26-24
Early Co. at Cook: This is a huge game for two teams looking to earn a bottom tier playoff berth. Defenses are great on both sides and points will be at a premium... Cook 16-15
Randolph-Clay at Miller Co.: The Pirates look like they are finally firing on all cylinders while the Red Devils continue to struggle..Miller Co. 25-18
Calhoun Co. at Mitchell Co. (Saturday): The Eagles are back at home for a Saturday night battle with a much improved Calhoun County team. Cougars are better but not quite at Mitchell County's level...Mitchell Co. 29-16
Charlton Co. at Bacon Co.: These two teams are currently tied for second in 2-A. Red Raiders are very good team but the Indians may have the edge... Charlton 24-12
Turner Co. at Lanier Co.: Bulldogs back at the "Roq" after a tough loss at Clinch. Rebels have struggled with injuries and face a big challenge in Lakeland...Lanier Co. 28-18
Sherwood Christian at Southland: This game is all about pride and should be an entertaining offensive shootout.... Southland 36-32
Heritage at Southwest Georgia: Former Deerfield-Windsor player Kevin Prisant brings his Heritage team to SGA in his rookie season. The Heritage record is good but they have yet to face a team like SGA.... SGA 36-16
Arlington Christian at Valwood: Valiants won a big region game on the last play last week against Brookwood and now face another first place team in Arlington Christian...Valwood 35-33
Windsor at Terrell Academy: Eagles are back at home and back in region for a battle with Windsor in what could earn the winner a first round playoff game at home...Terrell Academy 23-19

October 12, 2011
An even better week at 28-4. Not bad with so many big games although the Winnersville Comeback did get me. This week is even harder when it comes to big games. I am not backing down from the challenge.
Northside WR at Thomas Co. Central: The Jackets may have been caught looking ahead when they fell behind to Houston County last week. TC Central is no doubt looking forward to this game which will all but wrap up the region title for the winner..Northside 35-21
Lowndes at Colquitt Co.: Valdosta last week ended a seven game losing streak to Lowndes. Colquitt County hasn't beaten the Vikings in ten years. The Packers are going to be ready at home but I just don't see Lowndes losing back to back games...Lowndes 36-31
Valdosta at Coffee: The Wildcats face a tough task going on the road to play Coffee coming off such an emotional win. Coffee High is not complainiong...Valdosta 28-14
Crisp Co. at Westover: Patriots are rested and hope to have RB Deion Greene and QB T.J. Cromer for this key 1-AAA game. All offensive options will be needed in a defensive battle... Crisp Co. 15-13
Worth Co. at Cairo: After a sluggish start, Cairo it appears is finally getting on track. The Rams are no doubt going to be motivated after losing on homecoming but it will not be enough against the Syrupmakers...Cairo 27-13
Brooks Co. at Cook: A doubleheader of heavyweight action in 1-AA this week. Trojans have had two weeks to get ready for the defending region champs. Cook High can still keep their hopes of a region repeat alive with a win...Brooks 20-19
Thomasville at Fitzgerald: The other half of the heavyweight card is at Jaycee Stadium. Thomasville wins with defense which is anchored with speed. Fitzgerald can match the Bulldogs in the speed department on offense...Fitzgerald 34-29
Miller Co. at Calhoun Co.: This is a must win game for both teams who are in the playoff hunt in 1-A. Cougars have a solid ground attack while Miller County is adjusting to their spread offense a little better each week... Miller Co. 26-19
Terrell Co. at Pelham: This game also is must win for both teams playoff plans. Hornets have a big defensive front which faces a challenge from Terrell County's duo of Jerkerious Scott and Basheer Rogers..Pelham 24-22
Lanier Co. at Clinch Co.: Two neighbors who love to beat each other on the football field. The Panthers look like they are recovering after back to back losses while the Bulldogs believe this may be their best chance to get their first win over the Panthers...Clinch 29-27
Dooly Co. at Schley Co.: The Bobcats have won four straight and face a Schley County team that is coming off a big road win. Wildcats are improved but the Bobcats big game experience may be the difference... Dooly County 32-28
Terrell Academy at Southland: Eagles coach Bill Murdock celebrated his 200th victory last week while the Raiders lost at home to Westfield. Southland not a happy team this week.. Southland 41-35
Brookwood at Valwood: Warriors have won their first two region games but this game is on the road at Valwood which bounced back nicely from their first loss of the season..Valwood 36-31
Westwood at Windsor: The Wildcats are on the road for what should be a very close region battle. Westwood 42-24

October 5, 2011
A big comeback at the back end helped me to a 20-8 record but it was a tough week for me all the way around high school and college. September is over and let us start with October.
Valdosta at Lowndes: The Winnersville Classic is a great way to start. The Vikings have won seven straight against the Cats who are starting their second string quarterback for a third straight game. Lowndes is rested and ready to go...Lowndes 24-21
Tift Co. at Colquitt Co.: The reeling Blue Devils roll into the Hog Pen where they will find no sympathy from the Packers..Colquitt County 28-13
Northside Columbus at Bainbridge: Bearcats bounced back nicely with a shutout win at home against Hardaway. Now they face a very dangerous Northside Columbus team that can move the football with a talented quarterback... Bainbridge 21-20
Americus-Sumter at Crisp Co.: The Panthers are unbeaten on the road this but face a Cougar team coming off a big win against Dougherty....Crisp Co. 15-14
Monroe at Worth Co.: This is a huge game for the Tornadoes after losing their first two region games while it is also must win for the Rams. Both teams are solid on defense and the team that makes the most mistakes on offense will lose this game...Worth Co. 13-8
Albany at Thomasville (Thursday): The Indians are looking to beat at least one of the Big 4 in 1-AA and the Bulldogs are likely candidate in a rebuilding year. It is a short week and the Bulldogs had a tough loss and the Indians have short week experience but I like the Bulldog defense...Thomasvllle 19-14
Fitzgerald at Early Co.: The Purple Hurricanes take a five game winning streak west and need to have gotten Cook in the rear view mirror. Early County has a strong defense and will be ready after a week off...Fitzgerald 27-16
Miller Co. at Mitchell Co.: The Pirates got their first win of the season and saved their playoff hopes for the moment... The Eagles are likely to be ready to go after last week's loss at Seminole...Mitchell Co. 28-18
Seminole at Pelham: Hornets are good early but seem to struggle in the second half. Indians play great for all four quarters it seems..Seminole 34-12
Randolph-Clay at Terrell Co.: The Greenwave should be focused after last week's loss to Calhoun County. Red Devils have a tough rushing game and need this win...R-C 26-20
Wilcox Co. at Charlton Co.: The winner of this game gets first place in region 2-A. Charlton is at home but Wilcox County has looked very strong while the Indians defense has given up points...Don't know if it is late in games but the Patriots can score..Wilcox 38-35
Turner Co. at Clinch Co.: Both of these teams already have two region losses and the loser faces a tough road to get into the playoffs...Clinch County 22-16
Taylor Co. at Dooly Co.: Anohter big game when it comes to deciding the bottom half of the region palyoff picture.. Bobcats are at home...Dooly Co. 19-14
Deerfield-Windsor at Pinewood Christian: Never overlook the Patriots in Bellville but the Knights are glad to be back in the GISA...DWS 35-14
Westfield at Southland: The Hornets take an unbeaten region record into Southland where the Raiders need an upset..Westfield 25-15
Southwest Georgia at Arlington Christian: Warriors got a big region road win at Valwood last week and can use another in Fairburd...SGA 28-15

September 28, 2011
A very good bounce back week with a 26-7 record and just two of those losses in the marquee games. Region play is heating up and let's get started.
Worth Co. at Westover (Thursday): The Patriots have a very short week after a Saturday win and face Rams team that is likely still stunned from last week's loss to Americus-Sumter..Westover 20-16
Monroe at Americus-Sumter: The Panthers are still looking for their first win at home and better not overlook the Tornadoes who would like to beat their former offensive coordinator Chris Wade.. Americus-Sumter 22-20
M.L. King at Valdosta: The unbeaten Wildcats will get I think a much needed test before the Winnersville Classic: Valdosta 28-14
Coffee at Tift Co: It is a must win region game for both teams but especially the Blue Devils who have lost three straight...Tift County 24-14
Houston Co. at Lee Co.: The Trojans are back at home after a tough loss last week in Columbus. Bears have struggled agianst lower classification teams...Lee Co. 21-14
Thomasville at Brooks Co.: The Trojans have never beaten the Bulldogs in Quitman...That is motivation enough for me...Brooks 21-18
Cook at Fitzgerald: So much for a rebuilding year for the Hornets who haven't lost since the Colquitt game in week one...Cook 36-35
Berrien at Albany: The Tribe showed they are a better team against the Canes last week for a half and should be put two halves together this week..Albany 34-16
Mitchell Co. at Seminole Co.: This is a game these two schools have waited two years ago since Seminole had to forfeit last year. Both teams have plenty of speed at the skill positions and a starter's gun may be needed with a finish line for this track meet.Seminole 42-36
Pelham at Miller Co.: The Pirates are still winless after last week's loss to Terrell County. The bad news is Pelham is still unbeaten in region play and are getting better and more confident with each passing week...Pelham 22-19
Irwin Co. at Lanier Co.: The Indians are back in the region race with a win last week against Clinch. The Bulldogs have dropped their first two region games but two arguably two of the top teams in the region...Lanier Co. 31-28
North Florida Christian at Deerfield-Windsor: Give the Knights credit for going out to play the best but NFC from all I have heard in Tally is a very good team..NFC 38-22
Southwest Georgia at Valwood: The Valiants offense has been unstoppable so far this season. SGA prides itself on defense but I don't think the Warriors have enough to stop Valwood...Valwood 36-29

September 21, 2011
The record looks good at 25-6 but five of those losses were in the big games where the outcome was more unpredictable before the start of the game. Bigger games this week and let us hope we can do better where it counts.
Fitzgerald at Albany (Thursday): The Indians are off to their best start in more than a decade and want to compete for the 1-AA title. No doubt they have the talent but the open region play against a team that has big game experience...Fitzgerald 28-22
Ware Co. at Lowndes: The Gators always get up for the Vikings and this is one of their better teams it looks like early in the season. A young Lowndes team has gotten better and this is the final game before the Winnersville Classic in two weeks...Lowndes 14-10
R.E.Lee at Valdosta: The unbeaten Cats are back at home to face an R-E Lee squad out of Montgomery... VHS 35-13
Carver-Alabama at Colquitt Co.: Packer coach Rush Propst is not happy after last week's loss at Warner Robins....Colquitt Co. 31-21
Lee Co. at Northside-Columbus: Trojans opening region play on the road and this will be an interesting game. Lee has had two weeks to get ready and I think they can pull out a close one at the Big K....Lee Co. 26-24
Americus-Sumter at Worth Co.: The Rams are riding high after a big win over Tift County while the Panthers are unbeaten on the road this season....Americus-Sumter 15-13
Cairo at Monroe: The Syrupmakers have not looked like the Cairo team we are used to seeing. Coming off a loss to TC Central last week has me thinking the Makers will be ready for the Tornadoes..Cairo 24-7
Early Co. at Thomasville: The Bulldogs and Bobcats open region play. Early County is coming off a big win against Westover and the Bulldogs are well rested..Thomasville 22-13
Pelham at Randolph-Clay: The Hornets are 2-0 so far in 1-A play and are on the road against a Red Devil squad that is expected to be ready to go after their loss to Albany....Pelham 25-24
Terrell Co. at Miller Co: This is a must win game for two teams who both want to go to the state playoffs. It is the region opener for the Pirates who are likely to be hungrier after an 0-3 start..Miller County 27-16
Turner Co. at Bacon Co.: This is a big game when you are handicapping who gets the 4th playoff spot in region 2-A(Assuming Wilcox, Clinch and Charlton) repeat as the top three. The Red Raiders showed last week in Homerville they are improved. So is Turner County and this is a real tough one to call.... Bacon Co. 29-28
Hawkinsville at Dooly Co.: The Bobcats already have two region losses and cannot afford a third if they want to make the state playoffs again. This game is always close...Dooly Co. 18-14
Deerfield-Windsor at Brentwood: After two impressive region wins at home, the Knights go back on the road and out of region to Sandersville to play the Eagles. It is never easy at Brentwood but I like the Knights...DWS 28-14
Terrell Academy at Crisp Academy: The Wildcats have won three straight under first year coach Mike Ellis. They face a region rival that is scoring points but cannot stop anyone from scoring. I think the Eagles are wanting to get their first win on Friday..Terrell Academy 34-25
Valwood at Heritage: The unbeaten Valiants have scored 62 points in three of their four wins. Heritage is coached by Albany native Kevin Prisant and he is unbeaten so far as a head coach. I'm afraid the Valiants will hand him loss number one..Valwood 42-28

Week three was rough with nine losses to go with 25 wins. I did better with the bigger games with just three defeats. The schedule is kind of light with teams getting a week off before region play really cranks. We have a busy Thursday schedule.
Randolph-Clay at Albany (Thursday): The Indians play a Thursday game after three straight games on Saturday. The short week and lack of rest is a viable concern against a very good Red Devil football team.. Albany 19-16
Americus-Sumter at Houston Co. (Thursday): The Panthers have struggled on offense while the Bears let a victory slip through their fingers last week at the Cougar Den.. Houston Co. 15-8
Brooks Co. at Monroe: Tornadoes lost a tough one to Albany High and now host the team many think will win the 1-AA crown this fall... Brooks Co. 26-20
Thomas Co. Central at Cairo: This is a big test for the Syrupmakers after their loss at Bainbridge. TCC has had two weeks to prepare for a game where the road team has always had the advantage..Not this year...Cairo 17-14
Colquitt Co. at Warner Robins: Pack face a big road test at Warner Robins.... CC 28-14
Valdosta at Brunswick: The Cleveland Field scoreboard is still smoking from last year's meeting between these two teams. Don't think there will be 120+ points but I like the Cats...Valdosta 28-12
Burke Co. at Lowndes: The Bears are a very good AAA team and the Vikings have had some lapses in their concentration at times..Lowndes 36-15
Cook at Crisp Co.: The Hornets have won two straight against 1-AAA opponents. The Cougars defense is getting noticed.. The streak ends this week..Crisp 15-13
Tift Co. at Worth Co.: The Blue Devils are coming off a loss to Stephenson and will be focused for this neighborhood battle..Tift 34-14
Westover at Early Co.: Patriots gave Bainbirdge a tough battle and now face a big non-region road test. Early County also has a very good defense and is coming off a loss... EC 18-14
Coffee at Fitzgerald: Trojans lost at home last week to Appling County and now have to face a Purple Hurricane squad that is always tough at Jaycee Stadium..Fitzgerald 22-21
Seminole Co. at Calhoun Co.: Cougars scored 64 last week against Stewart County but Seminole has plenty of offensive firepower..Seminole 48-19
Bacon Co. at Clinch Co.: Red Raiders take an unbeaten record to the Swamp to face a Clinch County team that let's just say is still fuming about last week's loss at Wilcox...Clinch 35-16
Lanier Co. at Wilcox Co.: Patriots better have put the Panthers in the rear view mirror. The Bulldogs are big and looking to make the playoffs.....Wilcox Co. 41-20
Bulloch at Deerfield-Windsor: A game that could likely go a long way in deciding the region champion. The Gators really played a physical game against the Knights last year..DWS 17-14
Trinity Chrisitian at Southland: Raiders back at home after a tough loss on the road last week.. Southland 27-23
Westwood at Flint River: The Wildcats take a 15 game winning streak to Woodbury which is never an easy place to win..Westwood 28-22

A rough week in feature games with a 7-5 record but for the week I did finish 25-7. For the season I am now 61-14.
Bainbridge at Westover: Bearcats are riding high after their win at Cairo. The better forget about the Syrupmakers because the Patriots are good football team at 2-0. Westover's strategy is to win up front and a win over the Bearcats will show the state they are worthy of challenging a suddenly vunerable Cairo team for the 1-AAA title. Bainbridge 17-7
Westlake at Colquitt Co.: The Packers will face an always athletic Lions team which will make this an entertaining game...Colquitt Co. 39-22
Stephenson at Tift Co.: The Jaguars are loaded with DI college players and will present a tough challenge for the Blue Devils...Tift Co. 10-7
Lincoln at Valdosta: The Wildcats face a big test against one of the top teams in north Florida...Valdosta 25-24
Leon at Lowndes: The Lions picked a bad week to visit the Concrete Palace..Lowndes 28-7
Troup at Americus-Sumter: Former Dougherty coach Charles Flowers brings his Tigers to Americus to face the Panthers in what should be a defensive battle...Americus-Sumter 13-12
Worth Co. at Cook: Rams are on the road for a battle with the Hornets who showed a very good defense last week at Americus....Cook 15-13
Mitchell Co. at Thomasville: Bulldogs back at home and looking to earn a win over a former region rival..Thomasville 30-14
Early Co. at Seminole Co.: The Bobcats face their third border war game. Early County has shown a tough defense early but Indians offense looked very good last week in Dawson..Seminole Co. 26-16
Clinch Co. at Wilcox Co.: The last two Class A state champs meet in Rochelle. The Patriots have not forgotten last year's loss in Homerville...Wilcox Co. 29-22
Bethesda at Deerfield-Windsor: Knights not happy after last week's loss at Stratford. This is their home opener and expect a better peformance..DWS 28-21
Brookwood at Terrell Academy: The Eagles are still looking for their first win and the visiting Warriors will not be a pushover...Terrell Academy 36-34

A quick count shows my record is 27-7 after the first full week. I will take that. Add my perfect prelude and I am 36-7.
Thomas Co. Central at Colquitt Co.: Packers came from 10 points down in 30 seconds to win last week. TCC will not let that happen if they are ahead... I think the Pack win another thriller...Colquitt County 17-14
McEachern at Lowndes: A big test for the #1 Vikings who haven't forgotten last year's game at Powder Springs and the mysterious game clock...Lowndes 35-14
Cook at Americus-Sumter: Head coach Michael Pollock faces his former team. Hornets have had two weeks to prepare and the Panthers had a big win on the road...Americus-Sumter 18-16
Bainbridge at Cairo: This is a big rivaly game made even by bigger by the transfer of QB Steven Bench from Bainbridge to Cairo. Add to that the Syrupmakers lost two players to legal issues. It is a rocky start for the Makers but I still like them at home..Cairo 14-13
Miller Co. at Early Co.: The Bobcats played Bainbridge tough while the Pirates did not look good in their return to the spread... Early Co. 27-8
Thomasville at Pelham: The Bulldogs are 0-2 and better think twice if they believe they can roll into the Hornets nest and win easily. Frankie Carroll has had two weeks to get ready and this is Pelham's home opener... Thomasville 20-12
Seminole Co. at Terrell Co.: A big game early in 1-A for the Indians and Greenwave. Seminole coach Alan Ingram was not happy after last week's game with Wesleyan... Bad news for the Greenwave I am afraird... Seminole Co. 36-16
Clinch Co. at Brantley Co.: The #1 Panthers survived a scare at home against Pierce County. This game is on the road and I think the Panthers survive another close shave..Clinch Co. 22-20
Deerfield-Windsor at Stratford: Knights head coach Allen Lowe spotted alot he didn't like in the season opening win at Sherwood two weeks ago. The extra week should have Deerfield ready for this test..DWS 17-14
Mount de Sales at Southland: It is not that the Raiders beat Brookwood last week that was so impressive. It was they scored 52 points... Southland 34-28
Terrell Academy at Southwest Georgia: One of the great GISA rivalries. The loser of this game is 0-2 and that is something neither program is accustomed to seeing early in the season.. SGA 28-27
Westover vs Albany (Saturday): One of the better games at Hugh Mills Stadium in a long time. Patriots love to run but I think the Indians will make them throw...Westover 26-24

It is only the second week and I should quit while I am ahead. I somehow in the opening week went 9-0. Beginner's luck or I hope the sign that I may know what I am talking about for a change. More games and the selections will be harder.
Westover at Mitchell Co.: The Patriots scored a scrimmage win at Thomasville two weeks ago while the Eagles have senior experience. It will be close...Westover 21-19
Ware Co. at Coffee: Trojans have lost their quarterback Will Gardner but Suntory Long did lead the Trojans to three touchdowns last week against Brunswick. Young Trojan defense may have problems with the Gators...Ware Co. 24-10
Brooks Co. at Valdosta: In a reloading year, Valdosta will have several first time starters going against a very good Brooks County team. Cats' fans remember what happened in week one last year...Valdosta 14-13
Pebblebrook at Lowndes: The Vikings win at South Gwinnett was very impressive. Pebblebrook is getting better but not good enough...Lowndes 35-14
Locust Grove at Tift Co.: A banged up Blue Devil team looks for their third straight win when you remember they finished last season by knocking off Lowndes... Tift Co. 27-7
Thomasville at Thomas Co. Central: The Bulldogs do have a game under their belt and both teams have some question marks in terms of new starters. I like the Jackets OL..Thomas Co. Central 21-13
Early Co. at Bainbridge: A big rivalry game the Bearcats need to win at home. Early County has more experience but the Bearcats may have just enough..Bainbridge 27-21
Terrell Co. at Monroe: Tornadoes have always started strong and this year should be no exception..Monroe 26-12
Worth Co. at Fitzgerald: The Rams scored one of their biggest wins of the season when they upset the Hurricanes in overtime. Fitzgerald hasn't forgotten and the Canes already have a game under their belt... Fitzgerald 28-18
Wilcox Co. at Miller Co.: Region 1-A was swept in the first round of the state playoffs last year and this game is one of two of the first week where 1-A can show they can be a power. Patriots lost Nick Marshall to UGA but still have plenty of offensive firepower and talent in the secondary...Wilcox Co. 25-22
Wesleyan at Seminole Co.: The other big showdown takes place down highway 91 in Donalsonville where the Seminole County Indians host a Wesleyan team that lost in the state semifinals. Head coach Alan Ingram has told his team this is their year to get it done on the field. I think they will Friday..Seminole 20-17
Crisp Co. at Turner Co.: The debut for Lee Campbell comes on the road against a Turner County team that may be outmanned but will play hard...Crisp Co. 31-28
Southwest Georgia at Westwood (Thursday): This is a great non-region GISA battle. Wildcats return most of their state championship team and the Warriors are AA contenders every year. Westwood 20-19
Tiftarea at Valwood: Valiants are also thinking state title in AA and face a young Panther squad at home..Valwood 28-20
Thomas Jefferson at Terrell Academy: These two teams are no strangers in the playoffs and this is a good early season test for both....Terrell Academy 34-31

Bonus Pick (I forgot Wednesday)
Madison Co, Fl at Colquitt County: Packers defense is off to a great start with shutout in week one. May make it back to back. I give Cowboys one score against the Pack...
Colquitt County 28-7
August 18, 2011
It is hard to believe the high school football season is ready to start. A handful of games on the schedule before everybody plays next week. It is a good tuneup for making my picks.
Lowndes at South Gwinett: This is a good test for a Vikings team that has questions on offense and in the secondary. Vikings have stumbled at times on the road but not tonight...Lowndes 10-7
Cook at Colquitt Co.: The Hornets pulled one of the biggest upsets last season at the Hog Pen. The Pack hasn't forgotten and coach Rush Propst has made it clear to his players they cannot afford to have a slow start like last year...Colquitt Co. 28-7
Fitzgerald at Tift Co: This is a tough game to pick because you have no idea how ready the Canes are to play after what they have been through this preseason. Tift County struggled in a scrimmage loss but coach Jay Wall says they have had a good week of practice.. Tift Co. 20-14
Brunswick at Coffee: Trojans have plenty of offensive firepower which should help against an always athletic Pirate bunch from Brunswick... Coffee 26-14
Pelham at Baconton Charter: The Blazers are ready for their second season and face a Pelham team that has a new head coach. I think the Hornets are ready..Pelham 34-20
Lovett at Thomasville (Saturday): The Bulldogs beat the Lions last year in Atlanta but I don't know if their rebuilding job is ready for this early season showdown... Lovett 14-13
Deerfield-Windsor at Sherwood Christian: The defending state champion Knights start a new season with a new quarterback. The Eagles also lost a lot of talent and their lack of depth on a hot night does not bode well for a Knights team that has depth... Deerfield-Windsor 34-18
Robert Toombs at Southwest Georgia: The Warriors get a tough opener from a Robert Toombs team that always comes to play...SGA 18-13
Brookwood at Piedmont: Warriors face a tough opener against the defending AA state champs and scouting reports from Monticello say a repeat is realistic this year..Piedmont 27-14
See you next week.
