VSU welcomes new faculty

VALDOSTA, GA -

A south Georgia college started school this week with 60 new faculty members.

Dr. Jam Jenkins is one of those new professors in the computer science department, teaching mostly freshmen at Valdosta State University.

He previously taught at Georgia Gwinnett College and got his Ph.D. from Duke University.

He's been working on several projects including a tutoring system for introductory programming.

"I like the location," said Dr. Jenkins.  "I like being in the south where it's warm all the time . I have some colleagues I want to do some work with. I like the fact it's a teaching university but also has an opportunity to do research."

Last year, the school added 55 faculty members. The new faculty members were added to fill vacancies left by those who have retired and to accommodate the rising enrollment at VSU.
