METCALFE, GA (WALB) - The small town of Metcalfe in Thomas County is getting a $150K grant to improve downtown. The Department of Transportation is giving the city the enhancement grant.
Improvements include better parking, sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and landscaping. Thomasville Landmarks has been pushing for the grant since 2009.
They say the first phase is to revitalize the downtown buildings. "And at the same time we'll work with the owners of those buildings to get businesses in those buildings and provide some economy for Metcalfe," said Thomasville Landmarks Executive Director Brent Runyon.
The grant also includes money to improve storm water damage. Officials say construction is set to be begin next Spring.
