    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

ATLANTA (AP) - State labor officials say metro Atlanta's unemployment rate rose to 7.6 percent in June. The new figure was announced early today by the Georgia Department of Labor.

FORT DEPOSIT, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say passengers aboard a Megabus that had a mechanical breakdown in Alabama were aboard another bus and on their way New Orleans.

The bus was heading from Atlanta to New Orleans when it lost air conditioning about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon and pulled into a service station.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah are investigating two shootings that left one man with serious injuries. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police say both shootings happened last night.

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia health officials are seeking public input on an assistance program.

The annual public comment period for the Department of Public Health's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, or WIC, will run from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31.
