ALBANY, GA (WALB) –As the US looks for ways to break our dependency on foreign oil, solar power is gaining popularity.

Supporters say it could save businesses money and help create jobs in south Georgia.

Dozens of people learned about solar power Tuesday night at the Albany Civic Center.

Experts from Mage Solar talked about the benefits of solar energy.

The company's U-S headquarters is in Laurens County.

They make solar panels and teach people how to install them.

They say many businesses in particular have lowered energy costs by investing in solar panels.

" There are success stories even here in with Georgia with a manufacturer two weeks ago in North Georgia that is a zero energy manufacturer. That means they have put in enough solar they don't pay an electricity bill. They have enough credits to take care of all that," said Mage President City Commissioner," said Joe Thomas, President & Mage Solar U.S. Division.

The event was organized by commissioners Roger Marietta and Jeff Bodine Sinyard.
