South Georgia postal workers will not only deliver mail this weekend, they'll also fight hunger.
Saturday, mail carriers will pick up non-perishable food on their delivery routes as part of the 19th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. You should receive a post card in the mail by Thursday and Friday you'll get a bag to fill.
Second Harvest Food Bank depends on the drive to get them through the summer months. They hope to bring in a quarter million pounds of food.
"That's 250,000 meals we can provide to families throughout south Georgia so that's a huge thing for us because with all the other programs we operate, the food we bring in through USDA, Georgia State nutrition that food can only go so far," said Frank Richards with Second Harvest of South Georgia.
Last year the Stamp Out Hunger food drive collected more than 175,000 pounds of food in the 30 counties serviced by Second Harvest of South Georgia.
