The number of storm-related deaths in Alabama as a result of the April 27th Tornado outbreak is being revised upwards. The state now officials confirms 238 fatalities, up two from the previously tallied 236 last reported by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.
The two additional fatalities were confirmed in Marion County.
Governor Bentley ordered a statewide verification of the confirmed total number of fatalities more than a week ago and his office says that verification process is complete.
"As a physician, I understand the difficulties and enormity of the tasks faced by local coroners, physicians, and law enforcement officials in their efforts to identify the number of people who died as a result of this tragedy," said Governor Bentley.
"This unprecedented natural disaster presented our local officials with the overwhelming task of verifying a large number of deaths," said EMA Director Art Faulkner.
