Fatal tornadoes bring over 250 storm recovery jobs

From: Alabama Department of Industrial Relations

MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees announced Wednesday that over 250 storm recovery jobs have already been posted by 12 employers on Alabama's online jobs database, www.joblink.alabama.gov.

Some of the jobs posted include: general laborers needed for clean-up, tire technicians to repair tires and wheels on 18 wheelers that were damaged in the storm, and equipment operators, among others.

Interested applicants can apply for these jobs online at www.joblink.alabama.gov by going to the Advanced Job Search section and selecting "View Only Disaster Recovery Jobs", with "April Tornadoes" selected.

Employers who wish to post jobs should choose YES for "Disaster recovery job?" and select "April Tornadoes" in the drop down box.

"As we are already seeing hundreds of unemployment compensation claims coming in due to last week's storms, it is my hope that these disaster recovery jobs can be filled by those Alabamians affected by the storm," said Surtees. "I want to encourage business owners who post these jobs to please consider impacted applicants when hiring for these positions, and I'd also like to encourage those who lost their jobs due to the storm to apply."

Alabama JobLink allows jobseekers to identify themselves as unemployed due to the April tornadoes.

Staff at any of Alabama's 47 Career Centers can also assist employers and applicants in searching and applying for these jobs. A comprehensive list of Career Center locations can be found at www.dir.alabama.gov and at www.joblink.alabama.gov.
