In September, Governor Sonny Perdue created the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, in an effort to get our kids off the couch and into better shape.
The "SHAPE" Partnership launched a five-school system pilot program focused on fitness assessments in grades one through 12.
The Lowndes County School system is one of the pilot sights. And next school year, the program goes statewide.
We are happy to see our state leaders addressing this growing problem of childhood obesity and inactivity.
We hope that you, as parents of Georgia children, will offer encouragement to your kids as they take part in these fitness programs.
And engage them in physical activities when they aren't at school. It's one of the biggest investments you can make in your child's future.
