Viewpoint: Guest Editorial on Amendment 2

From Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard, and Albany Mayor Willie Adams--

For 25 years, our community has used the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax - our SPLOST penny - to pay for needed improvements.

Nearly 40% of all our SPLOST funds collected since 1985 have come from folks that live outside Dougherty County who work, shop, eat, do business, and attend college here.

The current SPLOST expires in March and - on the November 2nd ballot - Dougherty County voters will decide whether we continue to use this penny.

Because this is so important, Jeff and I are asking Albany/Dougherty County voters to come to the Albany Civic Center this Monday, October 18 at 7 PM to talk with us. We'll give you the list of what is proposed. We want to know what projects you consider a priority.

Other than those projects required by state and federal government, no priority has been set on doing the proposed SPLOST projects.

The Mayor and I need to hear your voice on which projects you feel are the most important. Adams: If you are an Albany/Dougherty County voter - Please join us this Monday, October 18th at 7 PM at the Albany Civic Center meeting room. We will respect your time and be out in a timely manner.

We hope to see you there. Thank you.
