Meigs, GA - (WALB) A Thomas County horse that got sick last week has died from West Nile Virus.

Charla West tells WALB that the animal became sick last week and tests conducted by the University of Georgia confirmed that he died of West Nile, on Tuesday afternoon.

She says he was down all Monday, and the community support was very strong. People rode by the pen where he was lying and stopped checking on him all day Monday and yesterday.

The family would like to get the word out to all animal owners so that they can make sure they get the vaccine.

The state will also test the animal's blood.

We will have more on the story later on WALB.
