Georgia school superintendent candidate insists on educator honesty

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –The Democratic Candidate for State School Superintendent says standardized testing has created a monster of corruption in our schools.  But the state must insist on honesty from educators.

Joe Martin says he's keeping close tabs on the C-R-C-T tampering investigations in Atlanta and Dougherty County.

He says the pressure on educators to produce good test scores created the problem.  "When you tell people that their job is on the line if test scores don't go up. You offer big bonuses if the scores do rise, and if you don't police the situation bad things happen", said Martin.

Martin said Georgia's reliance on standardized test scores is hurting education and should be de-emphasized, but he says there's no excuse for teachers to be dishonest.
