ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  With the August Tenth Republican Runoff less than a week away, nine South Georgia County and State Representatives and one Georgia Congressman endorsed Nathan Deal for Governor.

Standing by Nathan Deal, County Commissioners from Dougherty, Lee, Baker, and Crisp Counties all endorsed the former Congressman, saying he was the Gubernatorial candidate that would support South Georgia issues, and championing his integrity.

In a Sunday debate, Republican runoff opponent Karen Handel labeled Deal as corrupt because of a Congressional ethics investigation, a charge Deal denies.

"There was no finding of anything against me, by the ethics committee at all," said Deal. "It is certainly something that plays for the benefit of Ms. Handel and it plays for the benefit of the democrats. It's sorta one of those things politics does make strange bedfellows here. But there is no truth to those allegations."

The South Georgia endorsers said Nathan Deal has the best chance to defeat Democratic Party nominee Roy Barnes in the November general election.
