Darrel Ealum appears to be the winner of that seat. He beat challenger Dean Phinazee. Ealum watched the election progress with a hopeful heart.
He was up by a little more than 100 votes before the early and absentee votes came in. Ealum has plans to get straight to work.
"I'm very excited especially when you've worked as hard has my team and my family has, it's very exciting."
Ealum's election changes the racial makeup of the board. He says he plans to go to work immediately to improve Dougherty County schools.
