ALBANY, GA (WALB) - June Bug Griffin won his primary to serve another term on the Dougherty County School Board.

He defeated Sherell Byrd in the District Two Democratic race. We caught up with Griffin at the Holiday Society Clubhouse as he and his family watched the election numbers on WALB.

Byrd gathered with supporters at Chill Bar and Lounge downtown. Griffin will go on to face Donnie Lee Smith in November. She was unopposed in the Republican primary.

"I'm glad to know the people still trust in me. It was hard work today but I'm glad the results came out that I won," said Griffin.

Griffin says eight of his children and grand children went through the Dougherty County School System. He came under fire for his votes handling the recent search for a new school superintendent.
