Phoebe announces weather monitoring service

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Phoebe Putney hospital is using a new weather alert system to help protect patients, employees, and visitors.

They invested in SkyGuard, a customized weather monitoring service that will keep an eye on all Phoebe locations 24/7.

Phoebe officials say the system will allow them to improve patient safety by not unnecessarily moving patients during severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings. It will provide site specific information within a three mile radius with the goal of a 20-minute lead time.

"Folks in Americus know, that lead time is extremely important if you can add an extra 10 minutes to that, you may save lives frankly," said Chief Compliance Officer Brad Hallford.

Weather warnings can be communicated by paper, e-mail, phone, or text messages. WeatherData meteorologist monitor the sites on a continuous basis.
