VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –A convicted felon is behind bars again Tuesday night, this time for robbing a bank in Valdosta.

Investigators say 44-year old Joel Daniel held up a teller, took money, then just sat down on a curb outside the bank.

He previously served time for interfering with government property in Cook County.

Just after 9 a.m., a man walked into First State Bank and Trust on Inner Perimeter Road and demanded money.

"The note did demand money and threatened bodily harm and tellers complied with the robber's demands," said Valdosta Police Capt. Bobbi McGraw.

Police say Daniel got $5,300 and walked out. But then, just sat down and waited for police.

Officer Terry Hines pulled into the parking lot and saw the suspect sitting right here on this curb.

Daniel is unemployed. He was released from prison last year after serving time for interfering with government property in Cook County.

"I'm stunned," said Kim Clayton. "I'm just utterly stunned. This bank's never closed."

Daniel was then taken to the Valdosta Police Department for questioning.

Daniel's previous convictions were for damaging City of Adel property. Cook County authorities say when he was in the Adel jail in 2004, he pulled down the wiring and broke a light fixture. Tuesday he's charged with bank robbery.

The $5,300 was returned to the bank. Joel Daniel is charged with armed robbery.
