COPY-Visiting Physician learns new procedures at Phoebe

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A doctor from India is visiting Phoebe Putney Hospital to learn new operating room procedures.

Dr. Punithan Oli is a general surgeon in India. He met several Albany physicians during one of their visits to India, where they helped build a medical complex. Dr. Oli is trained to do basic Laparoscopic procedures on the gallbladder and appendix, and now he's learning more advanced procedures that he can take back home.

"Here the technology is real advanced, doctors are very highly skilled so I should use the same technology if possible in my country," said Dr. Punithan Oli, the visiting physician.

"That is a great advance for the area and this hospital will become one of the leading centers in south India to provide those kind of services," said Dr. Van Knowles, A retired Phoebe physician.

Oli will spend the next two weeks at Phoebe. He also spent time in metro Atlanta at Henry Medical Center where he also observed several procedures.
