ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – The Albany Regional Youth Detention Center says it needs more volunteers and more money.

The center's advisory board held its first ever legislative breakfast Wednesday morning. Members of the community were invited to learn about the YDC.

The center recently implemented incentive programs and purchased a new curriculum that correlates with the Dougherty County School system's. But they want improve the building and add PE and art classes, and that costs money.

"This is not a place where bad kids go we're trying to steer away from that. This is a place for education, growth, and for the children to focus on their future decisions," said Jessica Austin with the ARYDC.

The center has several mentoring programs and they're asking for volunteers to help make them a success for the 30 kids currently there.
