ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Georgia Public School systems continue to face budget shortfalls and there seems to be no end in sight.

They face more teacher furloughs, staff cuts and program cuts or big increases in property tax hikes.

A few Local boards with innovative and pioneering spirits have already moved to a four day school week. In Peach County, the school board decided it would rather cut money from transportation and utility bills than to cut it in the class rooms.

Peach County is saving $313,000 since they only heat or cool the schools four days a week and school buses stay parked for a three day weekend.

South Georgia counties spend a lot of money taking students to and from school and heating and cooling the schools.

As local school boards will inevitably be faces with possible tax hikes,

We think it is time for school boards give the 4 day school week serious consideration.
