2nd Driest July Ever, Tropical Activity

WALB's July rain total of 1.72" ties 1905 for the second driest ever recorded. Only 1922 was drier with 1.60". Not all of south Georgia has been this dry. Some areas have actually exceeded average totals.

Ironically July 2011 was the 5th Wettest in Albany, when other parts of south Georgia stayed below average. This is a lesson in convective summer thunderstorms. Micro scale features will not break this pattern.

It will again take a Tropical system to change the exceptional Drought in August.

A Tropical Wave in Hispanola may raise our rain potential by early next week. Another more impressive Tropical Disturbance is looking more favorable to turn into a Tropical storm. By mid week in could be in the Caribbean. Definitely needs to be monitored by then.
