Housing community sells lemonade for Alex

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany apartment complex is joining a national fight against childhood cancer--a disease that kills more than 2,000 children each year.

At the age of 4, Alexandra Scott announced that she wanted to use a lemonade stand to raise money for all children with cancer. Alex died from cancer in 2004.

Her goal and legacy lives on in the form of Alex's Lemonade Stand, a foundation for childhood cancer that raises money to find a cure. Hidden Oaks Apartment Homes has joined in on the effort.

They're selling lemonade in their office over the next two months with a goal of raising $1,000.

"We've done really good. Our residents have been really helpful. We're hoping that the public will also be helpful. We're asking that anyone just come by the leasing office, have a glass of lemonade and just put some money in the piggy bank," said Property Manager Stephanie Hurst.

Along with selling lemonade over the next several weeks, the apartments will also host a card tournament and Block Party to raise money in August. The block party is August 29th and is open to the public. It will include food, games and music.
